JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An estimated 31,000 pounds of food has been collected at the First Coast News Hero Central Food Drive presented by Publix, which was Friday and Saturday at several locations around the First Coast.
First Coast News stations WTLV NBC-12 and WJXX ABC-25 launched the food drive to help area food banks replenish their stock, as more and more area families are faced with food shortages.
Food collected during this drive will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank, and America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.
Volunteers from The United Way, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Publix Super Markets manned the Florida locations--ready to receive the much-needed non-perishable food donations.
According to Second Harvest of North Florida, an estimated 31,400 people receive emergency food assistance each week from a food pantry, soup kitchen or other agency served by them.
