PALM COAST, Fla. -- Interstate 95 northbound near Palm Coast reopened just before 5:30 p.m. after a fatal crash involving tractor trailers Tuesday morning.

The highway was shut down between Palm Coast Parkway and U.S. 1 while emergency crews attempt to clear the roadway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Flagler Emergency Management Services said fire and explosions were reported with the crash.

According to FHP officials, traffic on northbound lanes of I-95 was rerouted at mile marker 289 to go northbound in the southbound lanes.

The city also re-timed traffic lights on State Road 100 to ease traffic congestion along that stretch of roadway.

The southbound lanes of I-95 were shut down for several hours, but reopened around 8 a.m.

The asphalt was badly damaged when the fuel tanker caught fire during the crash.

Commuters planning to travel through this area should seek alternate routes.

The deadly crash occurred when the fuel tanker Mceuen was driving was traveling in the middle northbound lane and collided with an empty semi-truck being driven by 33-year-old St. Clair Agenord of Winter Haven. Mceuen's Florida Rock and Tank Lines fuel tanker turned over on its side and burst into flames upon impact.

Agenord was not injured in the crash, but was found to have an out of county warrant for child support delinquency and was booked into the Flagler County Jail. Agenord is currently being held on a $2,000 bond.
