FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- It is Wednesday, so that means it is time for our Teacher of the Week.

This week FCN is spotlighting Debbi Milligan-Roland at Fernandina Beach High School. She's been teaching English for 34 years there and actually graduated from the school herself.

She says a good teacher is someone who has patience, but also a sense of humor!

Mrs. Debbi Milligan-Roland is also the cheerleading coach and has lead the team to nine national titles.

"I think sometimes in cheerleading you can have more of an effect on a girl or guy because the interaction you have with them outside of class. I always tell them it is not what you learn in cheerleading, it is the life lessons you learn through cheerleading. That is what is important," says Mrs. Milligan-Roland.

Teaching for 34 years means she has seen the children of her former students come through and Mrs. Milligan-Roland jokes the young students act just like their parents did.

Congratulations for being our Teacher of the week!

Here is what her nominator had to say:

"Hard-working, dedicated, caring, loving, tough, funny.........all of this describes Debbi Roland. Debbi has been a teacher for 31 years. Mrs. Roland is a English teacher and also the Head Cheerleading Coach. She is always busy but somehow she keeps up with everything. My daughter says she is the best teacher, she said she is always there willing to give a lending hand and really works on making sure her students understand what she is teaching. When school lets out at 3:12, Mrs. Roland's day isn't over. She walks over to the cheerleading gym and works over 3 to 4 hours. Mrs. Roland is the Head Coach for JV, Varsity and the Little Pirate Cheerleaders. I have stood out in the waiting area and watched the girls practice and watched Mrs. Roland, she really cares about her job. She cares about all of her cheerleaders. She is strict but loving all at the same time. Strictness has put many championships under Mrs. Roland's belt at competitions. She deserves it so much for all of her hard work. Thank you so much for your time."
