JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars are working to fill a growing need in our community.

Right now, Blood Alliance reports several blood types, including the universal O-negative, are running low.

That is a problem because more than 40 hospitals across Georgia, Florida and South Carolina count on a stable blood supply.

For the 19th year, the team is partnering with Blood Alliance to host its "Jaguars Gift of Life" blood drive.

The goal is to try and get 1,000 people to donate between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m on Tuesday.

This year, the blood drive will take place in the East Touchdown Club of Everbank Field on the third floor.

Walk-in appointments are welcome, but you can also call ahead by dialing 888-99-TBA-HERO or using the iDon8 free mobile app.

Andrin Espana, 17, of Fleming Island is battling ovarian cancer and told First Coast News blood from a blood drive saved her life after a recent medical emergency.

"That day there was a blood drive for me, and I said I don't think I'm ever going to need blood. And it's funny because that day, I literally needed blood. I needed two pints of blood, and I didn't think that would ever happen to me. Like, it could happen to anybody," she said.

As of noon, Blood Alliance said they had about 250 people donate blood.

Those who stop by have the chance to win autographed Jaguars gear and a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado.
