Flights heading to Los Angeles International Airport were being held in a ground stop Friday in the wake of a shooting that occurred there.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported on its web site that jets were being held at their departure airports in the wake of a shooting that occurred in LAX's Terminal Three. The flight tracking site, FlightAware, said that the ground stop was continuing until 2:30 p.m. EST. Another flight tracking site, FlightStats, said that as of 2 p.m. EST, nearly 100 flights had been delayed and six flights had been canceled.

At least one other airport in the region was watching the situation closely.

"Obviously this is a very fluid operation and we're keeping a close eye,'' said Perry Cooper, a spokesman for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, who added that their law enforcement officials were keeping in close contact with the Transportation Security Administration and FBI. "It may just be an isolated incident.''
