JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Local travel agent Vermelle Smith is giving $3,000 to the M-Line, the mammogram hotline for women who can't afford mammograms. The money came from her brainchild, the M-Line Cruise.
She wants to do her M-Line cruise again in 2010. Everyone is invited. Proceeds go to the Mammogram Hotline.
The cruise is on Carnival and leaves Sept. 20. It's five nights in the Caribbean and stops in Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands and Cozumel, Mexico. Prices start at $459.
For more information, call Vermelle Smith at CruiseOne at 877-908-0858 or email her at Vermellep@florida-funcruise.com.
Vermelle, who used to be in the military, said she wanted to help because while she has insurance, she knows many folks aren't lucky enough to have medical coverage and so they can't afford mammograms.
Other people who went on the 2009 M-Line cruise said they had a ball with a pink lemonade party, a midnight buffet, a fun run on the ship, and other activities in support of the fight against breast cancer.
If you can't afford a mammogram, call our M-Line at 1-877-9-MY-MAMO. (1-877-969-6266)
