Atlantis launch from Cocoa Beach
COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- It took Freedom Davis and her family two hours to get to Cocoa Beach from their St. Augustine home.
Three adults and three children all packed into the family truck.
They beat traffic by leaving around 1 a.m., then arrived at the perfect spot for viewing Atlantis lift off at 3 a.m. They spent the rest of the night sleeping in the truck.
"Yeah, we're tired, but we had to do it," Davis said, before the launch from her spot on the beach.
With hotels either full or too expensive, there were hundreds of cars and trucks filling the shoulders overnight, where people chose to snooze.
"It's the last launch, we had to bring the kids here to witness history," she said.
