JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- When Duval County Public School students head back to class Monday, August 20, they are encouraging fathers and father-figures to take students to school on the first day.
Duval County Public Schools is taking part in the nationwide Million Father March, according to a news release from the school district.
The march encourages fathers and father-figures to take students to school on the first day. It is expected that more than 1,000,000 men in 800 cities will participate in the nationwide event.
The theory behind holding the march is that students will be inspired seeing fathers and role models take time out of their morning to bring them to school.
When the men drive off, they will be greeted by banners, stickers, refreshments and a warm welcome from school staff, the release said.
Throughout the year, the Million Father March will continue as the men as asked to remain active volunteers at their children's school.
To obtain more information, you are asked to contact your child's school.
