JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- First the shopping, now the returns. Expect long lines at major stores this week, especially at the return counter.
The day after Christmas, all through St. Johns Town Center, people like Cheryl Palmer, of Jacksonville Beach and Staci Hunter, also of Jacksonville Beach, were stirring ... with shopping bags and all.
"Returning some of my children's items that maybe didn't fit or were broken," said Palmer.
Hunter said she was also returning some items.
"Then, I found a couple good deals and now I'm purchasing a couple things," she said.
For those good deals, it's not too late. But in the land of retail, this was the worst year-over year holiday season in sales since 2008.
"Yes, we've seen a lot of people returning ... " said St. John's Town Center Director of Marketing and Business Development Lyndsay Rossman. "Exchanging gifts today so they can actually get the gift they did put on their wishlist."
So shoppers move on with cheer, returning gifts and spending money into a hopefully prosperous new year.
