Glenn Ellison has had lots of experiences in his life.....first as a U.S. Marine, an NFL player, a church deacon, and a Sunday school teacher . Now he's found a way to combine those experiences for the benefit of troubled families on the First Coast. Rob Chapman knows. Before he and his son met Glenn they were one of those families. According to Rob, "We had four years of hell that has turned into just a wonderful , mostly normal relationship." Rob's son, Mark, adds, "It's so much easier to not fight all the time." Rob and his son are graduates of Camp Consequence; Glenn's home away from home for parents and their troubled kids. "They come in for us to change their kids and we change them," says Glenn. "We empower the parent so the parent can do what a parent needs to do." Glenn teaches kids that their actions have consequences. In order to do that he uses two key elements, commitment and hard work like doing repairs in a state park. According to Glenn, "When those kids see what they've done in one day , and all by hand , their confidence levels go up ... plus we've helped the state of Florida by doing community service. We don't think it works, we don't hope it works, it does work." Local members of the legal system know it works too and now refer parents and kids to Glenn. Judge McCarthy Crenshaw says of Camp Consequence, "I've had some exciting results and it's a tremendous blessing and a real benefit for our community." Kids may not want to go to Camp Consequence initially, but afterwards most are glad they did. Mark Chapman says, "I feel blessed." Parents are glad too. According to Glenn, "When you can put a smile back on that mom or dads face and bring that relationship back together you're doing something right." That's why First Coast News is proud to honor Glenn Ellison as one of 12 Who Care.
