JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Can you bake birthday cakes for needy children?
Margie Cox is all fired up about being a Hero Baker. She's thrown a couple of birthday parties for homeless children so far, and now she has big plans for Easter.
Cox said it gives her an "awesome" feeling to help children who wouldn't have a birthday cake without her.
Cupcakes count, too. In fact, this week Cox and her team of Hero Bakers made a tower of cupcakes for two birthday children and their buddies. She even brought some bubbles along.
Hero Central and the United Way are rallying volunteers to make birthday cakes for children at 13 different Community Connection locations.
The children are from homeless families or victims of domestic violence.
If you want to be a Hero Baker put your name under "BE A HERO" in the Hero Central section of firstcoastnews.com. You don't have to be a fancy, professional baker. You can use a cake mix!
