ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Two Clay County siblings have launched a program to help feed students who might not otherwise have a meal, over the weekend.
High school students Ashley and Daniel Tarkington have created a program called Team Backpack.
They fill backpacks with food for students in need and drop them off at area schools every Friday. The recipients, who have been pre-selected by their teachers, take the bags home.
The siblings said they are trying to ensure those students have a meal to eat over the weekend.
The students then bring the backpacks back to school Monday, and the Tarkington siblings refill them and return them to schools on Friday.
The program currently is offered at Grove Park Elementary and Montclair Elementary, but there are plans to expand it to all the schools in the county.
In order to expand, however, donations of non-perishable food and backpacks are needed.
To make a donation contact First Baptist Church of Orange Park at (904) 264-2351 or e-mail them at email@example.com.
