JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Anthony Stinson, 51, grew up in Jacksonville's Grand Park neighborhood during the 70's and 80's and now he's on a mission to reduce crime in the neighborhood.

Stinson said in recent years crime has increased in the area at an alarming rate, in particular homicides and murders.

Stinson believes that crime has steadily increased in the area because of conflict between younger people in the neighborhood.

Stinson said because he loves the people in Grand Park he decided to make it his life's mission to restore peace in the neighborhood. He said that in order for the neighborhood to get turned around you must mentor the young people.

In 1996 he joined the Grand Park Athletic Association which is part of the Greater Jacksonville Pop Warner and in 2010 he was elected president of GPAA, a title he currently holds.

Stinson said they teach their players and cheerleaders that violence is not the solution to solving problems.

He encourages them to talk things out and work as a team and by doing this Grand Park will become a place where the residents will feel safe living in.
