Animation meets literary adaptation this weekend, but look for bloodthirsty teens to take the box office title over the holiday.
Rise of the Guardians and Life of Pi are Hollywood's big openers over the industry's favorite holiday, the five-day Thanksgiving break.
But the final installment of the Twilight franchise, Breaking Dawn -- Part 2, isn't done saying goodbye and is expected to claim the top spot at theaters for the second straight weekend.
Already, the cinematic vampires are staking their claim. Twilight made $12.8 million on Wednesday, bringing its overall gross to $175.7 million.
Second was the latest James Bond entry, Skyfall, which made $7.5 million, lifting its cumulative haul to $178.1 million.
Guardians was third with $4.9 million, followed by the Steven Spielberg biopic Lincoln with $4.21 million.
The remake Red Dawn was fifth with $4.2 million, while Pi took seventh with $3.7 million.
Full weekend estimates are out Sunday.
