LOS ANGELES -- Even at 70, Barbra Streisand still knows how to surprise a crowd.
During an audience Q&A on Sunday for her film The Guilt Trip (opening
Dec. 19), the legendary singer and actress explained how she once
smoked marijuana with British comedy legend Peter Sellers.
The revelation came after she was prompted by her co-star, Seth Rogen, who called the tale "the greatest story of all time.''
the studio audience erupted with laughter and applause, Streisand
explained that the incident took place more than 40 years ago, when she
was married to actor Elliott Gould.
"The funny thing, we went to a
restaurant. And we started to riff on, like should we have steak
(flavored) ice cream," said Streisand. "It was funny at the time. It's
not funny now since you're not high."
Streisand was nearly as shocking when she talked about an early road-trip partner - young Marlon Brando.
wanted to go to the desert to see the wildflowers,'' she said. "He
wanted to stay overnight and I said, 'No I don't know you well enough.' "
it was just "a daytime trip to see the sagebrush and the wildflowers.
We went into a little hamburger joint with a creaky screen door. I
remember sitting there at the counter ordering hamburgers and thinking,
'This is Marlon Brando!' "
Streisand said she planned one day to
write about her stories and lamented telling the anecdotes: "All of my
secrets. I have nothing to write about now."
