Social network Twitter has launched a video service that allows users to share brief video clips on their feed.
Vine is available as a free app on the iOS App Store. A blog post from Twitter announcing the service says they are working to bring the app to other mobile platforms.
Users film looping videos lasting no longer than 6 seconds, then share them on Twitter and Facebook. Users can also search for videos in Vine based on certain hashtags or subjects.
"Posts on Vine are about abbreviation - the shortened form of something larger," says Vine co-founder and general manager Dom Hofmann in a separate blog post. "They're little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They're quirky, and we think that's part of what makes them so special."
The app is available for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
