BUFFALO, NY-- The Buffalo Zoo is moving to the next phase for their new polar bear exhibit.
The Zoo is planning a new 'Arctic Edge' exhibit for their polar bears and other arctic, sub-arctic animals.
The planned 60,000 square feet exhibit will:
- Replicate the climate of the Arctic Circle
- Two large exhibits will house polar bears
- Three smaller exhibits will feature the arctic wolf, bald eagle and Canadian Lynx.
- The landscape will include two large saltwater pools, and zoo goers will get to view the bears swimming under water.
So far, the Zoo has raised just over $14 million so far and needs to reach $18 million to get the project going. They are now turning to the public to help them raise the remainder of the money to fund the project.
Zoo officials also introduced the media to one of their latest additions; a polar bear cub. The cub is nicknamed "Luna" for now. The Buffalo Zoo has plans to launch a naming contest soon.
