The Tony Awards ceremony expanded its reach Sunday.
The CBS broadcast, which was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, attracted 7.2 million viewers, a 20% audience spike from 2012, according to preliminary Nielsen ratings. It marks the awards show's best showing since 2009.
The three-hour show also enjoyed a year-to-year 20% boost among advertiser-coveted young adults (18-to-49).
Winners Sunday included Kinky Boots as best musical, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike as best play, Pippin as best revival of a Musical and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? as best revival of a play.
Acting winners included Cicely Tyson, Andrea Martin and Courtney B. Vance.
