BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Hud Mellencamp, 19, the older of John Mellencamp's two adult sons, turned himself in to Monroe County authorities Monday, a jail official has confirmed.

He, his brother and another man were wanted in connection with battery charges.

The younger of John Mellencamp's two adult sons, Speck Mellencamp, turned himself in to Monroe County authorities Friday, then was out on $5,000 bond the same day.

An official at the Monroe County Jail said Speck Mellencamp, 18, was booked at 11 a.m. and was released at 12:30 p.m.

Monroe County filed felony battery charges Monday against the Mellencamps in connection with a July fight.

A third person, Ty Smith, also has been charged. He surrendered Thursday night and was released after posting $500 bond. He is the son of Indiana University baseball coach Tracy Smith, Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters said.

Court documents describe a brutal beating during the early hours of July 29, when a 19-year-old man told police the Mellencamps and Smith came to his Bloomington home after a party.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Speck Mellencamp thought the man had punched him at the party. The man told police Speck Mellencamp punched him so hard in the face that he fell down.

The fight continued until the Mellencamps and Smith ran from the home, according to the affidavit. The man and his roommates reported the beating to police.

Hud Mellencamp is an amateur boxing champion who won Indiana Golden Gloves boxing titles in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
