PRESCOTT, Wis. -- Ptacek's grocery store has always been known for its generously sized bratwurst.

"One and a half times the size," boasts Pat Ptacek as he holds a brat package bulging at the seams. "This one curls around right here so it won't even fit on the tray," he smiles.

But on Labor Day, the 4th generation grocery store did itself one better when it grilled a 152-foot-long bratwurst in the parking lot.

"I haven't slept in about three weeks worrying about that bun," said Pat's dad Mike Ptacek, who baked the brat bun the day before on the same 152-foot-long cement block grill.

The Ptaceks claimed a world record in 2012 when they grilled a 50 foot brat for the store's 100th anniversary. When Budweiser agreed to sponsor a second event - including an appearance by the brewer's famous Clydesdales - the Ptacek family tripled its 2012 goal.

The brat weighed in at about 80 pounds and required more than 75 people wearing gloves to roll it over on the grill so all sides were browned over the charcoal.

Several hundred people gathered in the parking lot, sending up a thunderous cheer when Pat Ptacek announced with a bullhorn the brat's final length: 152 feet, 8 inches.

The brat was cut into pieces and sold on the spot. All proceeds will to go a new park near the grocery store.

Pat Ptacek was all smiles after the final measurement. "My heart is just racing," he said. Whose wouldn't be, when you're the best at wurst.
