GSI Commerce is holding a job fair to hire for 500 seasonal jobs
BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- A company seeking seasonal workers says it didn't recieve as many applicants as anticipated during a two-day recruiting event.
GSI Commerce told the Brunswick News that a recruiting effort netted 550 applicants. The company anticipated 900 applicants.
GSI Commerce is hiring seasonal employees for work from August through December, but county officials said maybe as many as 200 of the jobs could turn into permanent work.
Pay for the work, some of which can be done from home and some from a call center, is $9.25 per hour.
GSI Commerce is accepting online applications.
Glynn County Commission Chairman Tom Sublett said the jobs are a big plus for the community. " We are very blessed and grateful that GSI and ebay have not only stayed here, but expanded, which is wonderful news for our area. We are very appreciative of them investing in our community, and supporting our community, they are involved and engaged. And we have the assets here and the people who need jobs."
GSI Commerce was acquired by eBay in June, but continues to operate as GSI Commerce.
Local business owners are happy to hear that new jobs are being created.
"From a purely selfish standpoint as a shop owner, it will give people some more money to buy some things they may have missed out on," said Mark Spaulding, owner of Spaulding Fine Menswear in downtown Brunswick.
Meghan Davis owns Color Me Happy, a pottery and painting store downtown and thinks it's fabulous news that jobs are being added to the area. " We are excited that families could be excited to come play with us and paint pottery and hang out here as a family. It is great !"
