JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The second in command at JAXPORT is now in charge until the port wraps up a national search to see who would be the best fit for the top job.
Roy Schleicher was named the interim Chief Executive Officer following the departure of Paul Anderson who took a similar job in Tampa.
The JAXPORT board on Wednesday held a special meeting to discuss the search. Schleicher told the board he will be a candidate for the top job during discussion when he was elevated from his second in command position.
"I am going to put same effort forward as interim as I would if was the permanent CEO. 100 percent is the way we operate around here," said Schleicher after the special meeting.
JAXPORT spent nearly $100,000 on the last search that ended with Anderson being hired. Anderson left after 23 months on the job.
Schleicher during that search ranked right behind Anderson as being the most qualified at the time to lead JAXPORT.
