JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A new wave of foreclosure activity has Florida grabbing the top spot, with Jacksonville ranked 7th nationally in the number of foreclosures notices sent to homeowners during the first three months of the year.
Realty Trac tracks the foreclosure landscape and reports Miami is the number one city in the nation with 1 in 79 residences getting some kind of foreclosure notice.
In the top ten cities, seven are in Florida with Orlando and Tampa ranked just ahead of Jacksonville.
Statewide, more than 85,000 homes so far this year received some kind of notice.
The new wave of notices in Florida is three times the national average.
Florida U.S. Senator Bill Nelson says an investigation is underway to get answers on how Florida handled a billion dollars in federal money targeted to help homeowners who were either laid off or unemployed.
The Department of Treasury Inspector General is handling that probe.
