NEW YORK -- The major stock indexes are soaring this year. The S&P 500 is up 23 percent and the Nasdaq composite 31 percent. After the release of strong third-quarter results from technology companies on Friday, investors kept up the buying, propelling the market to its third straight weekly gain.
All 10 industry groups in the S&P 500 rose on Friday. The broad index climbed nearly 8 points, 0.4 percent, to 1,759. The S&P also closed at a record high Tuesday.
The Dow rose 61 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 15,570 on Friday.
The Nasdaq composite ended up 14 points, or 0.4 percent, to 3,943 -- its highest close since September 2000.
