How to protect yourself from ID theft this tax season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The tax filing season is in full swing and so is the problem of identity theft.

Your tax return contains personal information, and scammers can use your Social Security number to get a job, or to collect your tax refund.

The FTC says take steps to ensure your tax information does not fall into the wrong hands.

First For you:

-Make sure the person preparing your taxes is trustworthy.

-File taxes early

-Use only a secure Internet connection.

-Do not respond to email messages that claim to be from the IRS.
