  • CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Orange Park murder suspect, Adrian Seward, appeared in Clay County Court Monday morning.

Adrian was arrested at the Extended Stay at J. Turner Butler/I-95 with the help of the U.S. Marshals Task Force and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sunday morning.

According to David Alred, Supervisor Inspector, with the U.S. Marshals, they received a tip that Adrian was staying at the motel Sunday morning.

Mark Lauwereins, a hotel guest and witness said, "I saw the entire area was blocked off , they had U.S. Marshalls coming out here with machine guns everywhere, over here to the left and to the right of me, also the very front entrance. They blocked off the whole area, and I was very scared for my life and I didn't know what to think of it."

The manhunt for Adrian began late Thursday night after police responded to a shooting at the 3700 block of Pondview Street just before 11 p.m., according to CCSO spokesperson Mary Justino.

The female shooting victim was identified Friday morning as 33-year-old LeShawna Criswell-Seward, who shared the Oakleaf Plantation home with husband Adrian Bernard Seward, 44 and her 6-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

The Seward's ran a business out of their home called Drexel & Company according to records from Florida Department of State Division of Corporations and recently decided to split after being married for three years.

LeShawna allegedly went to the home Thursday night to gather belongings from the home the couple once shared, according to neighbor Amber Craven. The Seward's divorce was finalized five days before the shooting according to court records.

An altercation between LeShawna and Adrian occurred. LeShawna ran to a neighbor for help, Craven detailed. Adrian allegedly followed her to the neighbor's home and fired three shots at LeShawna, killing her.

"I was a little scared and this isn't something that happens in this area so it was shocking. I just heard gunshots, that's all I really know, then I heard a little bit later through some friends on Facebook."

Adrian fled the scene in a black 2002 four door Hyundai sedan, Florida tag 795 5HJ, according to the CCSO.

The Oakleaf Plantation home was listed for $218,000 mid-July and a sale was pending at the time of the killing, according to Watson Realty Corp.

Adrian has a criminal history spanning 26-years in Duval County relating to drug possession, grand theft and aggravated battery.

Adrian is scheduled to appear in court again on September 4 at 9 a.m. on a charge of murder and is currently being held without bond.
