St. Johns County Sheriff's Office investigates possible road rage shooting

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible road rage incident that has sent one man to the hospital.

The northbound lanes on U.S. 1 are shut down from Watson Road to Wildwood Drive after police were called to a shooting in the area around 8:15 p.m. Friday.

SJSO Cpl. Catherine Payne office said two people were involved in the incident, both adult males.

Detectives were questioning the suspect and the victim was airlifted to Shands Jacksonville.

"Initial reports are that this is a road rage incident but we are investigating and trying to determine the factors involved into exactly what occurred," Payne said.

Witnesses in both vehicles were also being questioned.

Police have not given an update on the victim's condition. The victim's name or age have not been released and police do not know at this point if he knows the suspect.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours.
