JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Six North Florida post office branches are included in a list of over 600 post offices across the country and in Puerto Rico being considered for closure by the U.S. Postal Service.
Local branches targeted for closure include post offices in Arlington, Lakeshore, Baldwin, Cecil Field and at Jacksonville International Airport.
There are 55 branches in Florida and 3 in Georgia on the list.
The cuts are being proposed as a money saving measure in a time where more and more people are paying bills and corresponding online.
The USPS expects to lose as much as $7 billion this fiscal year. The closings, if enacted would save up to $1 billion annually.
