JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Duval County Public Schools teacher received a big honor on Friday.

Rick Pinchot, a 4th grade math teacher at Chets Creek Elementary School, was selected as a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

It's the highest honor a K-12 math or science teacher can receive for outstanding teaching.

Pinchot said he thought something special might happen today when he went to pick his outfit.

"This is an elite group of teachers who can say they have been selected as a finalist for this presidential award, and I am proud to know that the dedication and commitment of Mr. Pinchot is being recognized on a national level," said Superintendent Pratt-Dannals in a release.
