JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- October 4th Duval County Public Schools' teachers and students will take part in an attempt to break a world record.

Students across Duval County will participate in the annual Read for the Record.

This year's book is "Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad," by David Soman and Jacky Davis.

Hundreds of teachers and students in Duval County participated in last year's Read for the Record, which totaled 2.2 million people.  Pre-k and kindergarten students took part by reading the same book on the same day.

Read for the Record supports the mission of Read It Forward Jax!, which encourages everyone to spend at least 30 minutes a day reading and then discussing what was read.

The following schools will participate in Read for the Record 2012:

  • Enterprise Learning Academy Elementary
  • Mt. Herman Exceptional Student Center
  • New Berlin Elementary
  • John E. Ford K-8
  • Lone Star Elementary
  • Oceanway Elementary
  • Mamie Agnes Jones Elementary
  • Brentwood Elementary

Activities at the schools include dressing up as your favorite book character, rock painting, guest readers, math activities and character parades.
