JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Duval County Public Schools will host a Title I Pre-K Parent Academy to better prepare students entering pre-k.
The academies will teach parents how to conduct home-based educational activities. The school district said the purpose of the activities is to enhance reading and writing skills of both students and parents.
Parents and student who attend one of the academy dates will learn activities they can do at home that duplicate the learning activities done while at school.
Also offered at the academies will be exercises for parents designed to help them promote strong social-emotional development.
The school district said their goal is to recruit and register 100 Title I parents with their pre-k student(s) by November 25.
Registered parents will spend six weeks in the program. Upon successful completion of assignments and 100% attendance, each parent will receive a $400 financial stipend.
Orientation for the academy will take place January 3 at Andrew Robinson Elementary and at Tiger Academy from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
