JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Benny Hookfin is living his dream in the kitchen at the Hyatt Downtown as part of program to help people learn skills for life.
Hands On Education at the Hyatt is what the program is called. The Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation helps administer the program to assist people with learning challenges make a transition into the workplace.
"I love to cook. This is my passion. One of my dreams is to have my own television show," said Hookfin, who graduated from Mandarin High School.
Hookfin, 37, is one of seven people locally who completed a two week training class at the Hyatt.
John Ficca administers the program and said it is delivering results, helping people who may not have done well in school but have the attitude and drive to be successful.
Hookfin said his favorite meal to cook is breakfast.
"Nothing like a good breakfast to start the day," he said.
