ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- This weekend, there's free screenings for four-year-olds heading into VPK.

The goal is to pinpoint potential reading issues, like dyslexia, early before children start school.

"We're trying to identify students at risk of reading failure in preschool years," said Nemours Bright Start's Carol Quick.

Nemours has partnered with Ancient City Baptist Church for Saturday screenings for children.

"So they don't have to go to school and have years of failure," she said.

It's a 25-question test that partners a child with a teacher. The teacher shows the child a series of letters, shapes and objects, then asks questions about them.

"It was great," said Lacy Lawrence, parent of four-year-old Stella Rose. "She had a lot of fun."

Lawrence's daughter took the screening Friday, and was right on track.

"She's all ready to go," Lawrence said.

Ancient City Baptist Church is at 27 Sevilla Street in St. Augustine. The testing is free and runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
