ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Florida Governor Rick Scott and General of Florida National Guard Major General Emmett R. Titshaw, Jr., visited Bartram Trail High School at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Scott joined the students and staff at the courtyard for the 9-11 Memorial Program.
During the ceremony, Scott reflected on the terrorist attack of 9-11 and awarded Michael James Jones, veteran of the US Coast Guard, with the Governor's Veterans Service Award for his service to Florida and the nation.
Governor Scott said, "Today we honor those who lost their lives in the attacks of September 11, 2001 and pray for the survivors and family members who were affected that tragic day. We also reflect on the importance of our military, law enforcement and emergency responder heroes who serve and sacrifice to protect our families in Florida and our nation. Ann and I hope this day will further strengthen our honor and respect for all those who serve us, our love for this great nation, and the many freedoms we enjoy."
The students began gathering around 7:45 a.m. and the remembrance ceremony concluded around 8:30 a.m.
