CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Echoing around the halls at Oakleaf High School and right there on First Trombone is Freshman Conner Hartigan.
Hartigan has High Functioning Autism and is defying all odds against him. His favorite thing in the world is music.
"I want to become a muscican," said Hartigan.
He plays four instruments and marches in the Oakleaf Golden Regiment. You can see he feels the beat all the way to his feet!
Hartigan even writes music. "I've written 2 for the band," he said.
Hartigan's family says he practices for hours each week to get everything right. The band director Martin Gaines says he effects all the kids around him in an amazingly positive way!
"They see him perhaps struggle with something, but then he picks up and moves so toward that goal, it think it makes them look themselves a little bit harder," Gaines says.
Conner says his band mates are all his friends and he plans to march in the band all four years.
"He gives more effort and more heart than any kid I think I have ever taught," says Gaines.
For always playing his heart out and never giving up, Conner Hartigan is our student of the week!
