JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Students at Nathan Bedford Forrest High School headed home for the holidays Wednesday, but not before voting on a new name for their school.
Earlier this week the school board approved severing ties with a controversial confederate general.

Students on a survey ballot could choose between Firestone High or Westside High. The ballot also provides an opportunity to offer another name.
People served by the school and alumni can either go Forrest High this week or mail in their survey.
The superintendent plans to make a recommendation to the school board in early January.
The cost of the name change is expected to approach $500,000.
