Student of the Week Kaleb Brandenburg
James Weldon Johnson Middle School
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- He's never made anything but straight A's in school and he's active in sports. Kaleb Brandenburg from James Weldon Johnson Middle School is our Student of the Week.
Kaleb is very good about hitting the books. He's in the 6th grade and making good grades is a top priority. "I've never made a B on my report card. I've come close on a progress report, but brought it up to an A on my report card."
He was recognized last year by UNF for his academic performance. He was in the top 5 percent in Duval County; and he won 1st place for his school's Math Superstars program last year and went on to district at Wolfson High School.
"I had been enrolled in this program since 1st or 2nd grade and I won 1st place at my school so that was very exciting for me," said Kaleb.
He also plays baseball for a top notch travel team. He plays 1st base and pitcher. At a young age, Kaleb has figured out how to excell in both sports and academics. "My parents have worked with me a lot on organizational skills. On my way home sometimes, if I have baseball, I will do my homework on the bus."
Principal Sharwonda Peek has been impressed with Kaleb's performance at school. "Kaleb is phenomenal and indicative of the type of child we are educating here at James Weldon."
This is his first year at James Weldon Johnson; a College Preparatory Middle School and it's been challenging, but Kaleb says it's challenging in a good way. "I plan to go to college and get a really good degree. I plan to be either a doctor or get into politics."
