JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Morning announcements at Duval Charter High School are part of Hannah Atkinson's responsibilities.
"I was suddenly student body president and everybody knew me," Atkinson said.
She not only started her 9th grade year in a new school; she started it in a school after being homeschooled for six years.
A teacher nominated her for student body president, and the rest was a bit of a fluke.
"I was actually told since my last name is Atkinson I was at the top of the ballot," Atkinson said, laughing. "And it was the easiest name to check off!"
Atkinson, who said she always strives for excellence, stepped into her new role with ease.
"I went from being the girl who kind of stayed at home to being the girl who is known and is a very big part of the school."
