JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- She's been through chemo and radiation numerous times and through it all she continues to be a great source of strength and inspiration to her students.
Campus Minister Joy Pichardo is our Teacher of the Week.
Her title is Director of Campus Ministry but Pichardo also sometimes teaches English, Computers and Religion. She also stays busy planning retreats and programs and Chapel.
Even with all she's been through, she stays very positive. "When I see someone going through the struggles she has, it helps me," said 11th grader Scott Moser.
Pichardo was diagnosed with hodgkin's disease in 2003. It came back three times. "It was quite scary not only for me, but for my family and everyone here."
She kept on going and kept on working, doing what she does best at Bishop Snyder and everyone is better for it. "She's really a good role mode for us," said 11th grader Ryan Chelf.
"I wanted to show others, you can be a warrior and you can fight against the odds," said Pichardo.
As of August, Pichardo is in remission. She said she couldn't have done it without all the love and support from everyone at Bishop Snyder.
