Teacher of the Week Jon Pichardo
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- At Bishop Kenny High School, there's been a family of favorite teachers. Recently Joy Pichardo over at Bishop Snyder was our Teacher of the Week. Turns out her brother, Jon Pichardo, is also a favorite teacher at Bishop Kenny.
Jon Pichardo has some big shoes to fill. His father taught at Bishop Kenny for over 30 years. He retired last year.
His sister, Joy, was also a teacher here for a few years; and his mom taught at a private elementary school.
"A great family and they all brought different talents to their respective disciplines so it worked out great," said Bishop Kenny Principal Todd Orlando.
Jon Pichardo teaches 12th grade government and economics. It's a job he does very well and he has fun with it.
"Finding ways to relate to the kids, other then the material you're teaching them; and once you've related to them then you've got them hooked," said Pichardo.
Senior Abigail Kreis nominated Mr. Pichardo for Teacher of the Week because she said he's the highlight of everyone's senior year.
"I talked to a ton of people (before taking his class) and they all said they really enjoyed him and it's enjoyable to be in his class."
A family tradition of great teachers continues. Pichardo said part of the reason he's able to connect with his students is because his mom and dad were great role models.
