JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- For some kindergarten students, going to school everyday is more like going to a castle. Their teacher, Mitzie Griffin, is our Teacher of the Week.
Mitzie Griffin teaches at Beauclerc Elementary and dresses up daily to make it fun for her kids. Griffin said she wears a long blue dress and a crown on her head. Her classroom is decorated like a castle, complete with a treasure chest, crowns, princesses and all sorts of stuff.
"It makes it fun for me, number one, but it's really about the children and they love the queen idea. They love being in a castle," said Griffin.
Griffin said the kids love the decorations and it helps build their self-esteem.
"They think she's great. They feel like they're in fairy learning land," said Principal Annetta Kornblum.
The single dad who nominated Griffin for Teacher of the Week said Griffin has taken his four kids under her wing. He said she even made sure they all had gifts for Christmas.
Griffin said she does it out of love.
She has taught for 26 years and said every single day she learns something new from her students.
