JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Our Teacher of the Week teaches high school math at Stanton College Preparatory School. Dot Kelly has been teaching for 40 years and said it's the only job she's ever wanted to do.
Kelly teaches Algebra I and Algebra II, and after four decades of teaching she's developed her own style to make sure her students get it.
"It's a different type of teaching and I really try hard to keep them involved and engaged the entire period," she said.
Tenth grader Darina Enriquez nominated Kelly for Teacher of the Week.
"Ms. Kelly is a very patient teacher and I thought this would be a great way to show my gratitude for her to be such a great teacher," said Enriquez.
A little 'thank you' goes a long way.
"I'm filled up right now because it means so much to me to know one of my students thought that much of me to go to the trouble to nominate me. It's an honor," said Kelly.
During National Teacher Appreciation Week, it's a great lesson for all students to stop and thank their teachers for all they do.
"This is where we learn everything for the future so we greatly appreciate everything they do for us," said Enriquez.
Kelly has no plans to retire any time soon infact she says, she's going for 50.
