JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Most of us remember that one teacher who inspired us to be our best. A student at St. Mark's Episcopal Day School nominated her most memorable teacher for Teacher of the Week.
Traci Black taught first-graders for 10 years. This is her first year teaching second-graders. One of her former first-grade students said Black is a teacher she'll never forget. "I nominated her for Teacher of the Week because she inspires me to be a teacher," said Anna Donahoo, now a 3rd grader.
Anna said ever since she was in Black's first-grade class two years ago, she's wanted to be a teacher. She's even set up a teacher section in her room at home. She said there are so many things Ms. Black does that make learning fun like the 'brain break' and the 'word jail.'
"If we were writing a word that didn't sound correctly, it would go in the word jail," said Anna.
"They're here a long time and we need to make learning fun," said Black.
Ms. Black has all sorts of games and activities in her 2nd grade classroom. The students are having so much fun, they don't even realize how much they're learning.
"I have the best job in the world. I laugh all day long. I get to see all those little moments and I just treasure my time with these kids," said Black.
Black was really touched one of her students nominated her for Teacher of the Week. She said she truly believes teaching is a calling and being nominated by a former student just confirms she's doing what she should be doing with her life.
