CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Carolyn Brunt teaches fifth-graders at Doctors Inlet Elementary but her students said she does so much more then teach math and science. She's our Teacher of the Week.
Brunt doesn't just teach her fifth-grade students; she truly cares about each of them, said 10-year old Sierra Hodge. "To me she feels like family. She's always been there for me when I was in the hospital and when I was sick."
Sierra nominated Brunt for Teacher of the Week because she said Brunt is a very loving and caring teacher and always puts her students first. Sierra adds, she also learns a lot in her class.
"I never get stuck on my math problems or science because she's always there to help me and it's very rare that you see her without a smile on her face," said Sierra.
Brunt has a secret to her success in the classroom: She likes to mix a sense of humor with her teaching and said it works every time. "We have little jokes in the room and they're a lot of fun to react with so I'm fortunate here."
She said she feels lucky to be teaching this class because math and science are her two favorite subjects in the world and she loves teaching fifth-graders. "I love doing what I'm doing and I believe every child can learn and I want everyone to see children the way I see them which is 100-percent," said Brunt.
Brunt has been teaching for 30 years. It's something she hopes to continue to do for a while longer.
