JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Our Teacher of the Week was nominated by one of the parents in her kindergarten class at Windy Hill Elementary.
In circle time, the kindergartners are learning about measuring and counting. First their teacher, Cary Mowry, measures her foot and then it's the students' turns. They each head to their desk, put their shoe on a paper and get to work.
"She's just wonderful. You walk into her classroom, and it's exciting and inviting and full of love," said Principal Sharon Sanders.
Mowry loves working with this age because they learn so much in a school year. "They come in and don't know their letters; then they learn their letters; then they're reading and before you know it they're writing," said Mowry.
Her mother was also a teacher. "My mom taught school for 35 years in second grade and said it was the best grade to teach; but I did my student teaching in kindergarten and I loved it," said Mowry.
She loves teaching this class of 5-year olds and it shows. "She is what every parent and every child would want in a kindergarten teacher," said Sanders.
