BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Our Teacher of the Week teaches 6th grade math at Glynn Middle School. Students and parents say she should be the Teacher of the Year.
In Chandra Moran's Accelerated Math class, learning is fun. She uses differerent techniques and games so her students understand math and enjoy it.
"She puts an exciting twist on things with all the games, and you never know what to expect when you come into her classroom every day," said 6th grader Corla Ingram.
Moran has been teaching for 7 years and said she learned a long time ago that the textbook is a support tool. "It's here to support you. It's here to be a guide, but you got to take it outside the book for the kids to really understand what is going on or they'll get bored."
No one is bored in this class. Students are encouraged to participate and ask questions, and if they still don't get it Ms. Moran will stay with them after school. "I believe any child interested in education, and I will not stop them from learning. So if they have a question that will take 2 minutes or an hour and a half I'll stay here until they understand."
The extra time means a lot to students like Xavier. "It was really nice (to stay after school). It helped me."
Moran feels that's why she's here to help her students. Moran grew up in the Glynn County School System and wants to give back to the kids who live here.
