JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- She's a First Coast elementary school teacher who loves her job.
Lisa Tyrie teaches third grade at Kernan Trail Elementary School. "I teach all the subjects. We are a self-contained class," said Tyrie.
Out of all the subjects, she has a favorite.
"My favorite subject is my kids. It's amazing to have 16 kids in a class. We've become this tight-knit family during the day-type setting and we look out for each other," said Tyrie. "We help each other with struggles and celebrate successes. It's really, really nice. I'm enjoying my year."
One of her students is hearing impaired so she wears a microphone and a special electronic device that hangs around her neck. "This allows him to really hear me well when I'm lecturing and talking in front of the room."
Tyrie's enthusiasm for teaching is evident, saying that her reward is that little light going off in a child's head. "You tweaked it and turned it and tried everything you can think of and then all of a sudden it goes off and they say, "Ah, I get it.' That's why we do it."
