JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- In just two years of teaching, Emily Piscitello has made quite an impact on her students.
"She makes some pretty boring things pretty fun," said student Evan Langston.
Piscitello teaches math at Switzerland Point Middle School.
"You have to make a connection with the kids," she said. "If you make a connection with your children then they will be inspired to learn."
Along with math, she's also encouraging kids to lead healthy, active lives.
"We just run with them every Tuesday and Thursday for about an hour, hour and a half," Piscitello explained. "We stretch and then we run as a team. It's a great time to get together with students and do something fun other than school."
Her own experience as a young runner inspired her to start Road Raiders, a long distance running club.
"It instilled so many values and good work ethic for me that I just had to do it for the students," Piscitello said.
That work ethic helps her students inside the classroom.
