JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Pauline Gonzales makes books come alive at her New Berlin Elementary School second-grade class - and she dresses the part and the kids love it.
Gonzales has been a teacher for 11 years, six at New Berlin, specializing in reading and writing. She said she has wanted to be a teacher every since she was in elementary school.

Realizing that every child might not enjoy reading and writing at first, Gonzalez said she makes it her job to change that.
"When I put my crown on and my magic wand, that's what they are going to remember and when they do their work," Gonzales said. "They are going to make connections to that."
Her students agree.
Our Teacher of the Week also helped organize a learning night for parents and students, and a Polar Express night where students can come to school in their pajamas. Gonzales is quick to point out though, that all the teachers at the school work together as a team.
"Some teachers get here at 7, go home at 7," Gonzales said. "And we're still willing to stay and put these activities on for parents and kids so I'm really proud to be part of the school."
She's also proud when her former students come back to visit or when they recognize her at the mall.
"It's amazing they remember me and they say 'Hey, Mrs. Gonzales, remember when we did this activity?' They remember everything and that brings joy to me because that means I brought an impact to their life."
