JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Spanish teacher, Julie Tugya started her teaching career twelve years ago, when Bartram Trail High School had just opened its doors, and hasn't left since.

Coming from a family of teachers, Tugya says she always knew she wanted to teach. "My teachers used to always get upset with me that my report for career day was always the same, but my desire never changed. So here I am, 12 years later, still teaching," she says.

Junior at Bartram Trail, Lily Peterson, has had Tugya for two years. She says Tugya makes her students feel comfortable in the classroom, even when learning a foreign language. "It's like you don't feel pressured," she says. "It's an AP class, and usually you feel really pressured to do well, but it's like, she's so nice about it, it doesn't feel like an AP, it's so much more laid back."

Tugya says she tries to make sure her lessons are well-rounded. "I don't want to focus on just the grammar. I want it to be something they'll use. I want them to focus on culture and conversation."

And she says she's just as passionate today about teaching as she was when she was a girl. "I get to work with kids, everyday. Who wouldn't want to do that?"
